Anyway.. I'm going there now. Which is a huge step for me. And a financially debilitating one, too. XD But that's besides the point.

ANYWAY. The point of this is to saaaaay..?

I'm doing very very VERY VERY VEEEEEEEERY little work beyond homework these days. Granted, I only stared on the 11th of May.. but I've been pretty much working nonstop since then. And even before I started, my work slowed to a digusting crawl.
I'm actually ashamed to say I've had a commission sitting on my plat since the 30th of last month that I only JUST got up with wind to start tonight. it's disgusting and sad and I hate myself for it.

BUT THAT ISN'T THE POINT EITHER!

Or actually, it sort of is.
Point is! I'm not taking commissions for now. Simple as that.
Once in a while I might pop in and say, hey, I'll take one or two just to keep my name out there.. but I've already been gone too long. I doubt many people would recognize my work and place it with my name anymore anyway.

Or maybe I'll just do non-remap ports for a while. Like that Violet one I have in there. Completely done in photoshop; no pixeling, no fsh editor. Just a shrunk down colored bust. I dunno. Both of 'em are a pain to do...

But. If you REALLY want a commission, if you REALLY don't mind a wait (and let me warn you right now, there WILL be a wait of at LEAST a week. Almost definately more than that in most cases.), then I guess I'll leave one, and ONLY ONE slot open. If that one ends up filled, too bad, y'gotta wait until I decide to reopen it again.
Why?
Because I'd rather not worry about people flamimg me about taking too long on their portraits (NOT THAT IT HAS HAPPENED YET. it hasn't. No one has done anything of the sort to me, for which I'm incredibly grateful. In fact, my current commissioner has been such a complete sweetheart about it. <3) when I'm freaking out trying to get projects for my classes done. Call me a jackass for finding mye ducation more important, but that ain't goin' to change things.

So! Just lettin' ya'll know. I might post something now and again if I get bored, premades and BGs and such, but.. don't count too heavily on it.

Not so much a rant as it is an observation, really.
But I read something on a forum somewhere, a post where someone was actually trying to get commissions, and it kinda irked me a little bit.
But before I get into what this is REALLY about, I have a question for.. well, anyone who reads this. What do you consider commissions?

Do you consider commissions.. a request? A business transaction? Perhaps a deal, or a trade? A marketing agreement?

Depending on the answers there, this my be my opinion alone. Which is fine. I'm allowed my opinions on matters, after all. I don't normally SHARE them.. but I"m allowed to have them.

Now then, in my opinion, I consider a commission to be a sort of business deal. You're giving me money, I'm giving you art. Because money technically is worth more than my art (in general terms. I price my work at $10 or higher on occasion; I mean you can't go to a store and expect to get something by flashing onea my portraits, get me?), you deserve a damned good experience for deciding to spend your hard earned (or borrowed ) cash on lil'o me. Granted, I deserve a bit of leeway as well; it ain't ALL about you. I need to be comfortable with what's going on to give you what you need, to get them artistic juices flowin' 'n all that crap. So it's give and take. I give you the best possible experience, I work as quickly as I'm allowed given RL needs and such, and you give me the bit of space needed to do things -right-.

That's just how I do things. Right?

So why does it bug me so much when artists tell commissioners flat-out 'DON'T BUG ME, I'LL GET TO IT WHEN I GET TO IT'? It has nothing to do with me. They can do what they want. But.. ARGH. I understand art isn't your life. It's not mine either. But, c'mon, you say something like that and it's BOUND to turn people off, right? I mean, -I- read something like that and I automatically think 'Oh, well, forget that. I won't get any art for months if -that's- how he/she feels.' I mean, that's literally the wording used. You can't put an explanation? Maybe you only have a few hours a day, or even a week, to work on artistic endeavors. Maybe you're a procrastinator. Maybe you work too many hours at the coffee shop. That's FINE. I UNDERSTAND. But c'mon, kids. Point that out, explain it, be polite. you're trying to earn people's trust. The better the experience, the more business you'll get because so-and-so is going to go blabbing to their friend so-and-so and THEY'LL blab to five more friends and so on and so forth. You make 'em wait for months on end for something small like a portrait, which can take, oh, between 6 and 8 hours to complete (this is based on MY time scale. I don't know about anyone else), it doesn't say much for your ability for time management, y'know? Or maybe it'll make someone think that you're purposely avoiding ignoring their commission... especially if they pay up front.
And to move on and say you don't want people to bug you for edits about their BOUGHT ARTWORK? Come on now. They're paying for something they can call and make their own. if it isn't perfectly done (Okay, perfect is too strong a word. Lets settle for well-done.. nothing in the world can ever be perfect. Except for.. y'know.. them cute, fuzzy cotton socks. THOSE are perfect.) in the way that they want.. isn't it kind of wasted money? If it doesn't have this detail or that detail, or if the artist has gotten something wrong, how is it wrong to ask them to edit it for ya? To try and make it better?
I -also- understand you, like every other artist I know, takes more than one slot for commissions. But work smart here; don't take more slots than you can handle. Besides, if someone at the TOP of your list is waiting a month and a half for a portrait, just imagine the wait to be somewhere in say, slot 3 or 4? I don't know about you, but I sure don't have the patience to wait half a year for a 95 by 95 little pixelated square. Doesn't that sound a little bit off to you?

I KNOW I'm blowing things out of proportion. And if any other artists read this, ya'll will likely get all up-in-arms and screech at me about how it's YOUR decision to do things YOUR way and it's not MY place to tell you what's wrong or not! And.. you're right. If you're going to have something negative to say about this journal? Scroll up, please. This is my opinion. I needed to get this off of my chest. This is something that just REALLY got my goat. And dammit, I want my goat to be left alone. So.
